MadCap Software is an American computer software firm headquartered in La Jolla, California. The firm is best known for producing various help authoring tools. It was the subject of a good deal of publicity within the user assistance community when several principal managers, software engineers, and support personnel broke away from rival firms such as Adobe Systems and Macromedia to found MadCap Software.

MadCap produces Flare, a Help authoring tool that generates different outputs like WebHelp, DotNet Help, PDF, XPS, and Microsoft Compiled HTML Help; Mimic, a tool for recording tutorials and software simulations; Lingo, a translation tool used with Flare and Blaze; Capture, a screen capture tool; and Feedback Server, a tool that allows users to leave comments within Webhelp and HTML help topics. MadCap's authoring tools are all based on XML.
